Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 7, 2026

Breather helps you work out what an apartment will really cost and how much money you'll have left. This policy explains, in plain English, what information Breather handles, where that information lives, and who else can see it. Breather is an early-stage product in public beta, so this policy describes what is actually built today — not aspirations.

1. Information we collect

Information you voluntarily enter. To calculate affordability, Breather asks you for information such as:

  • Apartment listing information you paste or type in (address, neighborhood, rent, fees, concessions, listing text)
  • Rent and housing expenses (broker fees, security deposit, utilities, laundry, parking, renters insurance, commuting and other recurring costs)
  • Annual gross income
  • Estimated or user-provided monthly take-home pay
  • State of residence and tax filing status, if you provide them
  • Optional payroll deductions such as 401(k) and health insurance contributions
  • Any other figures needed to calculate what an apartment leaves you each month

Information collected automatically. If and when analytics are enabled (see section 3), Breather may receive general technical and usage information such as device and browser type, screen size, pages viewed, referring website, feature interactions, and approximate location (typically country or region) as derived by the analytics provider from your IP address.

Breather has no accounts, logins, or passwords. Breather does not ask you for your name, email address, phone number, Social Security number, bank details, or any government identifier, and you should not enter them.

2. How we use information

The information you enter is used to:

  • Calculate the true monthly cost of an apartment, the move-in cash required, an estimated take-home pay, and your remaining monthly breathing room
  • Read an apartment listing you paste and pull out the costs it states, so you don't have to retype them
  • Save your recent apartments in your own browser so you can return to them and compare them
  • Generate a privacy-safe summary card when you choose to share a result

Breather does not sell your information, does not rent it, and does not use it for advertising or ad targeting.

3. Analytics

Breather is designed to use privacy-conscious, cookieless product analytics to understand how people move through the app — for example, how many people view the landing page, start a calculation, or reach a result.

Current status: analytics are built into the app but are only active when an analytics provider has been configured for this deployment. The intended provider is Plausible Analytics, which is cookieless, does not track people across sites, and does not build personal profiles. If no provider is configured, the analytics code is inert and no usage data leaves your browser. [TO COMPLETE: confirm the analytics provider before launch and update this section (and the retention section) with the provider's name and its data-retention period]

What analytics never receive. Breather's analytics events are limited to the fact that an action happened plus coarse, non-identifying metadata such as counts, true/false flags, step names, and the name of a field that was edited. Analytics are deliberately built so they do not transmit:

  • Salary or gross income
  • Take-home pay
  • Filing status
  • Payroll deductions
  • Rent, fees, or any other exact dollar amount you enter
  • Apartment addresses
  • Listing text you paste

Because the analytics are cookieless and do not track you across websites, Breather does not display a cookie consent banner. If a provider that sets cookies or performs cross-site tracking is ever added, this policy will be updated and consent will be requested where required.

4. Data storage

Your apartments and financial inputs are stored in your own browser. Breather saves your recent apartments, your calculations, and your financial profile (income, take-home pay, state, filing status, deductions) using your browser'slocalStorage. That data stays on your device.

Breather does not store your apartment calculations, salary, take-home pay, or financial profile in a Breather account or cloud database. There is no server-side record of your calculations to look up, export, or hand over.

Because the data lives on your device, it is not synced between devices or browsers. Clearing your browser storage, using private/incognito mode, or switching devices will remove or hide it, and it cannot be recovered.

The one exception is the listing text you paste, which is sent to an AI provider for processing — see section 5.

5. Third-party service providers

Breather relies on the following third parties:

AI listing extraction. When you paste an apartment listing and ask Breather to read it, the text you pasted is sent from Breather's server to the Lovable AI Gateway, which forwards it to Google's Gemini model to extract the costs the listing states. Do not paste anything into that box you are not comfortable sending to those providers. Their handling and retention of that text is governed by their own policies, not by Breather. [TO COMPLETE: confirm and link the applicable Lovable AI Gateway and Google model data-handling terms, including whether pasted text is retained or used for training]

Hosting. Breather is hosted on Lovable's hosting platform. Like any web host, the hosting provider may process technical request information such as IP addresses and user agents in the course of serving the site. [TO COMPLETE: confirm the hosting provider's server-log retention period]

Analytics. See section 3. When configured, the analytics provider receives the limited usage events described there.

Breather does not knowingly share your information with any other third party. If a sharing link you generate is posted somewhere public, anyone with that link can see the apartment cost summary it contains; those summaries deliberately exclude your income, take-home pay, filing status, and deductions.

6. Data retention

Data held in your browser stays there until you delete an apartment in the app, clear your browser data, or your browser removes it. You are in control of it.

Breather does not retain your calculations on a server. Retention of listing text by the AI providers, of request logs by the hosting provider, and of usage events by the analytics provider is determined by those providers. [TO COMPLETE: add the specific retention periods once each provider is confirmed]

7. Security

Breather is served over HTTPS, and any secret keys used to reach the AI provider are held on the server and are never exposed in the browser. Because your financial inputs stay in your own browser rather than in a Breather database, there is no central store of them to breach.

Breather is an early-stage beta project. It has no security certifications, no formal compliance program, no independent audit, and no guarantee of security. Anyone with access to your device and browser profile can see the data Breather has saved there. Do not enter information you would not want stored on that device.

8. User choices

  • You can use Breather without pasting a listing — every field can be entered by hand, so nothing is sent to an AI provider.
  • You can skip income entirely, or enter a monthly take-home figure instead of a salary.
  • You can delete a saved apartment from within the app at any time.
  • You can clear all Breather data by clearing your browser's site data for this site.
  • You can block analytics with a browser setting, an ad/tracker blocker, or a Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control signal.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over personal information. As Breather does not maintain accounts or a server-side database of your inputs, most such requests are satisfied by clearing the data in your own browser. If you have a request, contact us (section 11). [TO COMPLETE: add any specific GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA rights language and legal basis if you intend to market to those jurisdictions]

9. Children's privacy

Breather is intended for adults and is not directed at children. Breather does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided information through Breather, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

10. Changes to this policy

Breather is actively being built, so this policy may change. When it does, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Material changes will be described on this page. Continuing to use Breather after an update means you accept the revised policy.

11. Contact

Questions about this policy or about your data can be sent to [TO COMPLETE: contact email address for privacy enquiries].

[TO COMPLETE: add a legal entity name and mailing address here if one exists, or state that Breather is operated by an individual]
